Island farmers warned about gorse

by isleofman.com 3rd May 2009

The Manx Wildlife Trust is warning farmers they may be damaging precious wildlife habitit by clearing gorse on their land.

The clearing of gorse out of season is illegal - but some landowners have been uprooting gorse areas in the mistaken belief they may be able to claim extra payments under the Countryside Care Scheme.

Trust director Duncan Bridges says that's not the case and farmers have misunderstood how the scheme works.
