Island water rates to be assessed

by isleofman.com 3rd May 2009

Water rates in the Isle of Man are to be examined by a working group, set up by Chief Minister Tony Brown.

The move follows recent concerns in the House of Keys, about whether the current system is appropriate.

Mr Brown says water rates are a government responsibility and, given the comments made by some MHKs, it seems sensible for the Council of Ministers to take the initiative and look into the issue.

He says, in due course, the group will welcome the view of interested parties and the investigation is expected to result in a report to Tynwald.

The working group consists of Education Minister Anne Craine, who is in the chair, together with Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne and two other members of Tynwald who will be chosen in due course.
