Minister issues gorse clearing warning

Agriculture Minster Phil Gawne says farmers who clear gorse from their land to try to earn more from the Countryside Care Scheme could end up in hot water.

Clearing gorse could lead to a fine under the scheme and damaging habitats of nesting birds is illegal under the Wildlife Act.

Mr Gawne says his department has been receiving calls about the problem, and he is keen to stamp out the practice.

He says it's something his department takes very seriously:
