Brian Beattie JP, Chairman of Ramsey Town Commissioners, has issued a Britain in Bloom call to action to the town’s residents and businesses.
Ramsey - which was awarded 1st Prize in the Isle of Man Britain in Bloom competition last year - will be representing the Island in the 'small town' category in this year’s RHS Britain in Bloom finals.
At his end-of-year reception on 24th April, Mr Beattie commented: ‘This year, the Royal Horticultural Society is putting community participation and environmental responsibility at the heart of the Britain in Bloom campaign by increasing the importance of these two areas in the judging criteria.
‘This 'Local Roots' community emphasis demonstrates how Britain in Bloom is about far more than flower beds and hanging baskets; it’s about overall environmental high quality, especially litter-free streets, and I’m encouraged that we have already received generous pledges of sponsorship from more than 15, mostly local, businesses.
‘The Commission’s head gardener, Ken Barnes, and his team are to be congratulated on the excellent work they do to help make Ramsey a greener town year round and I know they are making every effort to secure success in this year’s campaign, but it is up to everyone - in the public and private sector - to support their efforts in a spirit of collective environmental responsibility.’
The 2009 Royal Horticultural Society Britain in Bloom finals will take place on Wednesday September 23rd in Torbay, Devon.
