The turbulent history of the Kings and Lords of Mann informs a great new children’s discovery trail at Castle Rushen, set to be launched on Saturday 2nd May.
Children from 5 to 11 will have the opportunity to take part in fun activities around the castle, helping them to interact with the displays and get the most out of their visit.
Along the trail, children will be able to discover the history of the Kings of Mann , learn who ‘The Great Stanley’ was, and find out interesting facts about Medieval and 17th Century dining habits, which were quite unusual by today’s standards.
Every child who completes the trail will receive a colour-in sheet to take home, as well as a sticker and a voucher giving them free entry to another Manx National Heritage attraction.
Howard Parkin, Public Services Manager for Manx National Heritage, commented: 'This exciting new children’s trail follows on from the success of the Manx Museum Discovery Trail, launched in February and still on offer for every child visiting the Island’s National Museum.'
Manx National Heritage has planned a series of trails at different sites, to launch throughout the summer season and beyond. Look out for trails appearing at The Laxey Wheel, The Grove in Ramsey, and Rushen Abbey.
To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth, the organisation will also launch a special natural history-themed trail at the Manx Museum for the summer holidays.

Castle Rushen is open daily from 10am to 5pm until the end of October.
