MER findings should be debated

by isleofman.com 27th April 2009

An MHK wants to know why a report from an independent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding last year's closure of the Manx Electric Railway wasn't debated.

Ken Tomlinson submitted his report in September last year but it wasn't laid before Tynwald for seven months.

Mr Tomlinson concluded larger departmental decisions should only ever be taken in the light of all available relevant information and advice - and that a key issue was a failure of the Minister to his civil servants to engage advice of the railway engineering staff in terms of the report and its recommendations.

Michael MHK David Cannan wants to know why the report was apparently left on the shelf.
