A 19 year-old man who pushed his girfriend's head against a car window has been put on probation for 18 months and given 100 hours community service.

Matthew Jamie Cowin, of St Catherine's Drive in Douglas, appeared for sentence after admitting affray, possessing cannabis resin and damaging a car.

Cowin attacked his girlfriend following an argument in March last year.

Edward Oldham reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

Cowin was detained later in Windsor Road when officers found 1.4 grams of cannabis resin.

Then in August last year he got involved in an argument at a party and, according to his advocate, took his temper out on the wing mirror of a car, but paid for the damage immediately.

She said Cowin had an issue with alcohol, was drunk on both occasions and needed assistance.

High Bailiff Michael Moyle banned Cowin from on-licensed premises for six months and from buying alcohol for the same period, in addition to the 18 months probation and 100 hours community service.

Cowin must also pay ?125 costs.
