by isleofman.com 24th April 2009

A 20-year-old woman who hit another woman with a bottle has been given 180 hours community service.

Danielle Norman, of Farrant Street in Douglas, appeared for sentence after admitting a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm on Amy Sykes in the Woodbourne Hotel, on February 12.

Edward Oldham reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

The court heard Norman was in the pub at around 11pm with her boyfried, who was on the phone to Miss Sykes.

She then came to the pub and got involved in an argument with Norman which ended up with the defendant hitting her with the bottle.

Miss Sykes only received minor injuries, but High Bailiff Michael Moyle said offences involving bottles were serious, although each case was dealt with on its merits.

He accepted there was a degree of provocation and ordered compensation of ?250, with costs of ?90, to be paid.
