PAG renews freedom of infomation demand

by isleofman.com 24th April 2009

A local pressure group is repeating its call to the Manx government to bring in freedom of information legislation.

The Positive Action Group has been lobbying for more open, accountable government and has developed a charter listing six steps to be taken in order to achieve, what it calls, "this core principle".

PAG Chairman Roger Tomlinson says freedom of information was one of the important issues which Chief Minister Tony Brown said would need to be considered and progressed in his election statement in 2006.

Mr Tomlinson says it's time for Mr Brown, who is at the halfway point of his administration, to realise that promise, adding it's two years since a preliminary public consultation exercise was held.

The Positive Action Group's third Annual general Meeting is being held next Monday, at the Manx Legion Club in Douglas, from 7pm.
