Brewery boss not surprised by rise in alcohol duty

The boss of the biggest brewery in the Isle of Man says a rise in the cost of alcohol will have little effect on business.

Managing director of Heron and Brearley Grant Paterson is responding to the announcement by United Kingdom Chancellor Alistair Darling of an increase of two per cent in alcohol duty.

The increase was included in Wednesday's UK budget and will apply in the Isle of Man, with the cost of a pint of beer going up by a few pence.

However, Mr Paterson says he isn't particularly surprised:
