Monopoly reports may not be completed before October

An investigation into monopoly providers such as the Steam Packet will take longer than originally expected.

The Office of Fair Trading has been appointed to look into the ferry company and a consultancy firm is assessing energy regulators.

But Chief Minister Tony Brown told Tynwald the two investigations would need to be considered in tandem and the Steam Packet report may not be completed until October.

However, he assured members work was progressing and needed to be balanced against the "best interests of the consumer and the Manx public".
