A man who lied to police and the courts has been jailed for four months by Deemster Doyle.
Thirty-four year-old Geoffrey Michael Wake from Manchester was arrested in December last year for drink driving.
When he appeared in court, he posed as his brother, John Joseph Wake, and was fined ?1,000 after admitting the offence.
But days later his lie was found out.
Jason Roberts reports (text, below, from attached audio file):
Appearing at a Court of General Gaol, Wake admitted two offences of committing an act against public justice.
Just days after his first court appearance, he was banned from driving for seven years, and jailed for four months by High Bailiff Michael Moyle.
The court heard he had two previous convictions for drink-driving and was disqualified from driving at the time.
His advocate told the court he had shown a lack of rational judgement caused by alcohol and panic.
Jailing Wake, Deemster Doyle said the offences were very serious.
