Tesco expansion proposals 'called in'

Plans to create a Tesco superstore in Douglas are to be scrutinised by the Council of Ministers.

Tesco wants to double in size and offer new lines to customers in the Isle of Man.

The company also claims the expansion would create up to 250 new jobs.

But it's proving a cause for serious concern among smaller retailers, with some fearing town centre businesses could lose so much trade they would be forced to shut.

Ramsey commissioners recently passed a resolution for the Tesco planning application to be 'called in' by CoMin, and that has now happened.
