Regular reviews of child benefit payments, pursuing access to criminal records and the introduction of a points-based system, where potential new residents would be 'scored' on their likely contribution to the economy.
Those are among the proposals which could now be implemented, after Tynwald backed a report with a series of recommendations for new controls on immigration into the Isle of Man.
A new Migration Policy Group may also be established which, among other things, would examine changes to the law in the United Kingdom and consider whether they could be incorporated into immigration rules for the Isle of Man.
The proposals, in a report by the Council of Ministers, include more rigorous enforcement of work permit laws.
