Only one senior manager at a government agency took a pay rise higher than that received by civil servants over the last year.
In Tynwald today, North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson asked about pay rises given to chief executives during the period.
Chief Minister Tony Brown said civil servants got a 4.1 per cent rise in 2008, the same as the chief executives of the Insurance and Pensions Authority and the Post Office.
The Chief Executive of the MEA received 2.3 per cent, but one chief executive got a much better deal.
He told Tynwald:
"The chief executive of the Financial Supervision Commission was awarded a two stage increase, agreed in March 2008 by the full board of the commission, excluding of course, the chief executive.
"This was part of a wider review of the FSC's salaries and resulted in a pay increase of 12% for the chief executive from April 1, 2008 and a further increase of 11% from April 1, 2009."
In a written reply to a question in the House of Keys in February, Mr Brown said the chief executive of the FSC received ?225,000 a year, making him the highest paid government employee.
The increase of 11% from the start of this month boosted the figure to just under quarter of a million pounds a year, or ?4,800 a week.
