A 25 year-old Onchan man has been given a suspended prison sentence for possessing 20 ecstasy tables he said he was going to give to close friends.
David Jon Clarke, of Derwent Drive, was acquitted of possessing the tablets with intent to supply by a jury at a Court of General Gaol.
Clarke’s advocate said his client had offered to plead guilty to the possession charge from the outset of the case, but this had been rejected by the prosecution.
Clarke also admitted possessing a tiny amount of cannabis resin.
Deemster Doyle was told the amount of cannabis was so low it couldn't be measured, but had been discovered at Police Headquarters after Clarke's arrest.
Clarke's advocate told the court he had the packet of tablets for a just few moments and they were to be given to a close circle of friends.
Clarke, he said, was ashamed of his conduct and was genuinely remorseful.
Deemster Doyle imposed a three-month prison term, suspended for two years, and a two year supervision order.
For possessing the cannabis, he imposed a seven-day suspended prison sentence to run concurrently.
