Island cricket team end tour on a high

The Island completed their pre-season tour with a splendid win at Eckington.

Batting first the Manx made 171 for 9 with Danny Kniveton top scoring on 34 not out, Ricky Kniveton hitting 22, Mark Williams 21 and Greg Hawke 17.

The home side were rocked by some fine Manx bowling and slumped to 84 for 7.

Les Staniforth and Keith Fields then led a revival, but with only 23 needed for victory Fields was dismissed by Ollie Webster.

Greg Hawke then mopped up the tail for the Island to win by just nine runs with Danny Hawke taking 3 for 26, Greg Hawke 3 for 27 and Mark Williams 2 for 11.

Meanwhile Crosby had a fine win at Birkenhead Park.

Nick Wasley took 1 for 17 and Martin Oates claimed 1 for 19 as the Merseyside team ended their innings on 119 for 3.

Crosby raced to victory with an excellent unbeaten 65 from Kevin Kniveton, while Oates cracked 18 as the Marown side won by 5 wickets.
