Tynwald to debate health agreement and immigration

by isleofman.com 21st April 2009

A scheme which could pay for medical treatment for Isle of Man residents in United Kingdom hospitals, after the ending of the Reciprocal Health Agreement this time next year, should provide lively debate during the April sitting of Tynwald.

Onchan MHK and Liberal Vannin party leader Peter Karran will suggest passengers leaving the Island by sea and air pay a levy, which would go into a fund for the purpose.

Chief Minister Tony Brown will call for the establishment of a Boundary Review Committee, to examine the constituencies for elections to the House of Keys, and Trade and Industry Minister David Cretney will explain his immigration proposals, including a points based system for people wanting to move to the Island.

The sitting starts with question time, with 35 items for oral answer and 15 for written reply.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson has tabled a number of items, including one about the promotion of the Isle of Man as a finance centre.

Tynwald gets underway at 10.30am, and there will be full coverage on Manx Radio's 1368 AM frequency.
