Marine Spirit Explored in Glen Exhibition

by isleofman.com 18th April 2009
Tomorrow (Sunday 19th April)), for one day only, the Glen Helen Inn is to become a showcase for one of the Island's most talented young artists.

'Fish', a unique exhibition by Kate Summerville, will feature 26 paintings inspired by the sea, coastal landscapes and marine life. This is Kate's second solo exhibition; her first, in 2008, was both a critical and commercial success.

Kate, a fine art graduate based in Peel, imbues her subjects - be it shoaling mackerel or a windswept coastline - with a rich, dreamlike quality, invoking a powerful emotional, as well as aesthetic, response.

She says of the exhibition 'The paintings are in a variety of media - there are some watercolours of fish and whales alongside more 'painterly' mixed media landscapes and abstract seascapes. It will be more accessible than my last exhibition in both content and venue and I feel I have a good variety of work in this show to appeal to different tastes.

'It is still in the same vein as my 'Down by the Sea' exhibition in July 2008 but I have developed the illustration side of my work, especially the fish pieces that were popular last year. As always, the sea and Manx coastline are my constant source of inspiration.'

Fish: An Exhibition of Original Marine Art runs from 2pm to 10pm on Sunday 19th April at the Glen Helen Inn, Glen Helen. Paintings will be for sale. Admission is free and there is ample parking. For more information or directions, call Kate Summerville on (07624) 414055.
