Local authority unhappy with TT practice plans

by isleofman.com 16th April 2009

"A step too far" is how Michael Commissioners describe plans for early road closures to allow for practice sessions for the inaugural TTXGP.

The mountain section of the course is due to close at 4pm, and the rest of the circuit an hour later, for four consecutive days, from the Tuesday of practice week.

Commissioner Steve Hamer says while the local authority broadly supports the TT and wants to see it continue, he believes it's stretching goodwill beyond the limit.

He is also disappointed nobody has sought the commissioners' views on the subject.

Mr Hamer told Manx Radio:

"There has been no consultation at all, in fact we have been moaning for a few years now that we only get to know road closures at the very last minute.

"In this case, we are not against them coming up with some experimental race using batteries, but we think the practicing for this should have been planned much further ahead than a month before the racing, and incorporated somehow within the existing schedules."
