Successful start for lunchtime concerts

by isleofman.com 15th April 2009

'Soundbites' got underway at the Villa Marina yesterday.

The series of lunchtime concerts has been organised by the Arts Council to celebrate the refurbishment of the Villa Arcade, and show off the new performance area at the rear of the building.

Music from all genres is being featured during the week, from Jazz and folk, through pop to classical.

Arts Development Manager for the Isle of Man Arts Council Emma Callin says the first concert was a great success and she's confident the area will be a valuable asset for all the arts and the community (play attached audio file):

The concerts are free and run for an hour, from 1pm each day.

The programme continues with King Chiaullee today, the Caspian Quartet on Thursday, Truman Falls on Friday and Clara Baker on Saturday.

Members of the public are invited to go along and listen, and take their lunch with them.

The refurbished Villa Marina Arcade will be officially opened in the summer.
