Fastcraft due to go into service next month

by isleofman.com 15th April 2009

The Steam Packet's new fastcraft Manannan is scheduled to start service in the Irish Sea towards the end of next month.

In his internet blog, chief executive Mark Woodward says the company is now provisionally assuming a start date of May 22, two weeks before TT race week.

He says the Manannan faces a long and challenging programme, including crew and terminal training, statutory certification and berthing trials around the Irish Sea.

The Company also has to satisfy the regulatory authorities in England, Ireland and Isle of Man that the vessel is fit for service in every respect, and the crew properly familiarised.

Meanwhile, Mr Woodward says passenger numbers for the TT are slightly up at this stage compared to the forward bookings for TT 2008.

If bookings continue at the same rate, he expects an increase of around 5% in the number of motorcycles coming over, which means around 10,000 will arrive on the Island at the end of next month.
