Phone company takes action against malicious callers

by isleofman.com 15th April 2009

There has been an immediate response from a mobile phone company in the Isle of Man to a call for tighter controls on customers, so anybody abusing the system can be easily traced and, if appropriate, prosecuted.

After a teacher in the Island said he was the victim of malicious, early morning calls for several months, Sure Mobile says it's moving to register Pay as you Go customers.

Andrew Shipley, who is also the local representative for the teaching union the ATL, wants SIM card owners to give details, such as their name and address, to help police with investigations.

Head of PR at Sure Mobile Steve Smith says having Pay as you Go customers registered has benefits on both sides:

"Knowing who they are helps us to tailor and create better products focused on them and equally, from our perspective, it gives us the details we can use should there be an offence like this."
