Extra 'expenditure' down to 'reclassification'

by isleofman.com 10th April 2009

An MHK who queried an apparent increase of over ?800,000 in the Department of Tourism and Leisure's expenditure on the TT has been told there is nothing to worry about.

After seeing the entry under "New areas of spending - TT sponsorship and contract", in the government's 'Pink Book' of estimates, Onchan member Peter Karran requested a breakdown of how the money would be spent.

He asked for the sums allocated for television, sponsorship and any other costs, but has been told the figure of ?815,000 has only appeared because of a reclassification of spending, either by the department or on its behalf.

Tourism Minister Martyn Quayle says it's simply a matter of presentation, and has no material impact on his department's finances.
