Cavendish misses out in Belgian classic

by isleofman.com 8th April 2009

Mark Cavendish failed to claim another classic victory in the Ghent-Wevelgem race today after missing the vital break.

There was some consolation for the Colombia-High Road ridar though, as his 21 year-old Norwegian team mate Edvald Boasson Hagen outsprinted the pack to take the 203km, one-day event.

Following a hectic early season, which has already seen the 23 year-old from Laxey rack up eight wins, including a stunning debut victory at the Milan-San Remo classic in Italy, he will now take a well-earned rest.

Next up for Cav is the Giro d'Italia, the scene of two stage victories for him last year, which begins on May 9.
