by isleofman.com 8th April 2009

A Douglas councillor is asking the chief minister to consider new legislation which would require the Department of Highways to adopt every public road in the Isle of Man.

David Ashford has been representing residents of Lucerne Court in discussions with the DoT over who should pay for maintenance work within the estate.

He says progess is being made in that the department has applied a proper surface at the point where the road from the development joins Victoria Road.

But he says it's unacceptable that anybody should have to pay for the upkeep of a public highway (play attached audio file):

Councillor Ashford is welcoming the adoption by the DoT of Linden Grove and Linden Gardens.
