Teacher tells conference of phone call abuse

by isleofman.com 7th April 2009

A teacher at St Ninian's High School has told a national conference how he received months of abusive phone calls from pupils.

Andrew Shipley told the Association of Teachers and Lecturers conference in Liverpool that he and his wife were targeted by louts, who would ring at two or three o'clock in the morning.

The phone calls were either silent, or abusive and sexually explicit.

A report in the Telegraph newspaper says teachers across Britain are abused by pupils because state schools are powerless to impose discipline.

Teachers say pupils aren't scared of getting in trouble because they are often just spoken to rather than excluded.
