Burglars told consequences of reoffending

by isleofman.com 7th April 2009

Two Ramsey men who burgled an occupied house in the town, stealing wine and gin, have escaped immediate jail sentences.

Eighteen year-old Callum Thomas Radcliffe, of North Shore Road was given a 12 month prison sentence suspended for two years, coupled with a two year supervision order.

Liam Anthony Faragher, also 18 and from Close Cooil, was put on probation for two years.

The court heard the defendants entered the house by an unlocked conservatory door and stole the wine and spirits, which were mostly recovered.

Their advocates said there was no forced entry, the house was not ransacked and no valuables were taken. They only entered the conservatory and kitchen and the offence was a "spur of the moment" decision taken while both were drunk.

The deemster said that was an explanation not an excuse and warned both men what would happen to them if they continued offending.

They were both advised to address their intake of alcohol.
