Urgent meeting requested over pension scheme

There are growing concerns over the exclusion of a significant public sector pension scheme from the review which is currently taking place.

Administrators of the fund for former local government employees say they are currently looking at a ?17 million shortfall, or 'black hole', and the current cost of the scheme to Douglas ratepayers alone is ?800,000 a year.

Douglas Borough Council runs the scheme for all 24 of the Island's local authorities, and has written to the local government minister asking for an urgent meeting.

Councillor David Christian is looking for answers to a number of questions:
