MHK explains anti-drugs proposal

by isleofman.com 6th April 2009

An MHK is further explaining why he thinks Manx customs officers should be deployed on Steam Packet boats.

In the House of Keys tomorrow, Onchan member Peter Karran will ask the chief minister if he would consider the move, and putting them on United Kingdom and Irish soil.

Mr Karran is concerned drugs, guns and other undesirable items can be brought over to the Island and says it's important every effort is made to keep them out.

He told Manx Radio:

"If we were to start this sort of investigation [into] whether the UK authorities would let it, then we would have far better security at the ports in the adjacent isles.

"That keeps the drugs out, that helps to keep the guns out and that's being proactive, rather than the reactive way that we see our government, when it does get kicked up the pants, they run around in ever decreasing circles."
