Traditional music weekend in Ramsey

by isleofman.com 4th April 2009

The annual Shennaghys Jiu is being held at a number of venues in the north of the Island this weekend, and on Monday.

The name means "tradition today" and the festival is a celebration of the younger performers of traditional music.

It was originally set up to give them a chance to get involved in the Island's culture and perform in front of an audience.

As well as a number of concerts, there is an art exhibition at Ramsey town hall, by pupils from four junior schools in the area.

It includes work from the town's new primary school, as chairman of the festival's organising committee Juan Garrett explains (audio file attached):

The art exhibition runs until Tuesday afternoon.
