MHK wants customs officers on Packet vessels

by isleofman.com 3rd April 2009

The possibility of Manx customs officers on Steam Packet vessels and an issue relating to undersized scallops are two subjects up for discussion in the House of Keys next week.

Overall there are eight questions for oral answer and four for written reply.

Onchan MHK Peter Karran will pose the question about customs officers, which he says is in the interests of protecting the quality of life in the Isle of Man.

He will ask if there will be discussions on the matter, between the Council of Ministers and appropriate officials.

Michael MHK David Cannan will be seeking clarification of whether it is policy to allow ten per cent of undersized scallops in any catch, without the owner of the fishing vessel being prosecuted.

The new prison at Jurby will also feature, with North Douglas MHK John Hougton asking how many prisoners from Merseyside and the North West of England are on remand awaiting trial and sentence.

Other subjects include orthopaedic surgeons, TV Licences and buses.

The Terrorism Finance Bill and the Advocates (Amendment) Bill are down for second and third reading respectively.

The sitting of the House of Keys is from 10am on Tuesday and there will be live coverage of question time on Manx Radio's 1368 AM frequency.

There is also a sitting of the Legislative Council, from 10.30am.

Eddie Lowey MHK has questions about what he considers 'down market' advertising at the new Sayle Gallery in the Villa Marina Colonnade and he wants a progress report on two proposed developments in the Lord Street area of the capital.

Juan Turner has a question about fixed penalty fines and George Waft will be asking what steps are taken to warn pregnant women of the possibility of certain birth defects in their children.

The Gender Recognition Bill is down for second reading and the Prohibition of Female Genital Mutilation Bill has been passed up to LegCo from the Keys.
