Hill wins third under-17 championship

by isleofman.com 10th March 2009

Snooker prodigy Darryl Hill lifted his third under-17s title at the weekend.

The twelve-year-old edged Jamie Wilson 3-2 in a tense final.

The tournament took place at Douglas Snooker Club on Sunday with five entrants; Hill, Wilson, Steve MacDonald, Matthew Dodd and Jack Cain.

Qualifying was a round robin affair with each player playing the best of three frames against each other, resulting in the top two going into the final.

After a topsy-turvy first four frames the score was 2-2.

It was now down to the deciding frame and DSC was engrossed in the match.

It was nip and tuck throughout and when down to the colours a safety battle took place with the lead changing from one player to the other.

The score stood at 41 points to Darryl and 34 to Wilson with only pink and black remaining and Wilson needing both of them.

Both players had their chances but Darryl sunk the pink to claim the title.
