Government gets tough with 'cowboy' gas installers

It's out with the old and in with the new today, with a change in the organisation in charge of giving an official safety stamp to gas engineers in the Isle of Man.

The CORGI scheme has been replaced by the Gas Safe Register, as part of a move across Britain to increase awareness of the important issue.

Installers are being told that from today it's illegal to work if they haven't signed up with the new body.

Health and safety inspector Brian Arnold says one of the aims is to get tough on people who aren't properly qualified:
