Island urged to take part in 'big switch-off'

Douglas Borough Council will be doing its bit this evening for a worldwide initiative to make a point about climate change.

Earth Hour has been organised by the World Wildlife Fund and will involve lights being switched off for an hour between 8.30 and 9.30pm.

The Council is hoping to achieve a total lighting switch-off with all feature lighting extinguished on Douglas Town Hall, the Market Hall and Shaw's Brow car park.

Billions of people across the globe will be taking part in Earth Hour, which has been arranged ahead of a key summit on global warming, in Copenhagen in December.

Cheryl Cousins from the One World Centre is urging as many people as possible in the Isle of Man to get involved:
