Rushen MHK Slams KSF Directors' Payments as "A High Price for Failure"

by isleofman.com 31st March 2009
Rushen MHK Juan Watterson has criticised payments made to the directors of Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander as a 'high price for failure', following the disclosure of the sums paid.

The Treasury Minister revealed that over ?113,000 had been paid to existing directors. Four directors were cited, with a shared sum of less than ?10,000  attributable to former Chief Minister Donald Gelling and Chief Financial Officer John Cashen.

Mr Watterson said, 'I am glad that this question has been answered. I find it appalling that over ?100,000 has been paid in directors' fees, primarily for two directors in such a short period of time.  This is a significant sum that cannot now be diverted to creditors, and part of the tab that must ultimately be picked up by the Government.'

Mr Watterson added 'Donald Gelling and John Cashen are to be commended for realising the sensitivities of this where people have lost significant sums. I would be interested to hear the justification for the other salaries.'
