International music event in Port Erin

Thirty-five of the world’s finest young oboe players are on the Isle of Man this week.

The second Barbirolli International Oboe Festival and Competition is getting underway at the Erin Arts Centre today.

Competitors from as far afield as Australia, China and the United States are all vying for the first prize of ?2,000 and a London recital.

Preliminary auditions are taking place today and tomorrow, before competitors are whittled down to three for Saturday's final.
