Jail for motorists who abused IOM vehicle licences

by isleofman.com 30th March 2009
Two businessmen from the United Kingdom have been sent to jail after they and their friends used Isle of Man driving licences to speed around England.

Andrew Priest and Andrew Robinson falsely applied for the licences using an address in Ramsey and their own names.

Priest and Robinson, who both run computer businesses, planned to use them to rack up speeding points, while keeping their English licences clean.

But the scam was discovered when the Island resident living at the address contacted police.

Jason Roberts reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

Manchester Crown Court heard 36 year-old Priest had given the fake details to friends who also used the licence when they had been caught speeding.

Robinson, 42, also admitted using his false licence two or three times after being snapped by speed cameras.

Both admitted making a false declaration and Priest pleaded guilty to two charges of perverting the course of justice.

Priest, of Faulkners Lane, Mobberley, Cheshire, was jailed for nine months and ordered to pay ?630 costs.

Robinson, from Oxfordshire, was given a three-month sentence and ordered to pay ?480 costs.
