Earth Hour tomorrow

by isleofman.com 28th March 2009
Raising awareness of climate change issues is the main focus as the world joins together for Earth Hour tomorrow night (Saturday).

It’s hoped more than one billion people across the planet will turn their lights off for an hour to send out a message to world leaders ahead of the climate control conference in Copenhagen later this year.

Douglas Council is demonstrating its commitment to the initiative between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.

It plans a total lighting switch-off, ensuring all feature lighting is extinguished on Douglas Town Hall, The Market Hall and Shaw’s Brow car park.

In the case of Shaw’s Brow car park, essential lighting will be provided to levels one, two and three where 24-hour access is required.

Due to operational reasons and to avoid unnecessary cost it is likely some, if not all, of the buildings will remain in darkness until Monday morning.
