'Man in cage' inspects fire damage

by isleofman.com 27th March 2009
Four days after a man lost his life in a flat fire, Demesne Road in Douglas remains out of bounds for traffic.

It had been hoped to remove the 'road closed' signs yesterday afternoon, but police now say the restrictions will remain in force until further notice.

The reason is the need to put in place further safety measures at number 19, which suffered serious damage in the blaze.

A large crane has been working on the site, and today it was used to lift a man in a 'cage' up to the roof level so an inspection could be carried out.

Police are again apologising to local residents and say there will be a further announcement tomorrow.
