Bride tip safety issues to be raised in Keys

by isleofman.com 27th March 2009
Public sector pensions and the new tip to be located in Bride are among the contentious issues up for discussion during question time at next week's sitting of the House of Keys.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson will get things underway by asking if the Council of Ministers will consider any options other than the Hymans Robertson report, which is currently out for consultation and is looking into reform of the Island's public sector pension schemes.

Onchan MHK Peter Karran wants to know how long it will be before people from Crown Dependencies have to use their passports to travel to the United Kingdom, and the new tip in Bride will be under scrutiny, with Mr Henderson asking if the site will be used for dangerous substances such as asbestos, and what safety measures there will be.

Other subjects to be raised include vaccinations for cervical cancer, the cost of public sector rents in Peel, and gambling.

There are four billls on the agenda, all of which have reached different stages of consideration.

In order of progress through the House they are the Terrorism (Finance) Bill, the Council of Ministers (Amendment) Bill, the Advocates (Amendment) Bill and the Prohibition of Female Genital Mutilation Bill.

The sitting starts at 10am and question time will be broadcast in full on Manx Radio's AM 1368 frequency.
