by isleofman.com 25th March 2009
A post mortem is to be carried out today on the body of the man who died in the Demesne Road flat fire on Sunday

His remains were removed from the property yesterday evening, after an operation lasting more than two days, to make the building safe. The structure had been severely damaged in the blaze, from which five other people were rescued.

The victim has still not been identified.

Meanwhile, police have issued descriptions of a couple seen walking past number 19 Demesne Road at around 4am on Sunday, just before the fire was discovered.

Inspector Will Campbell says getting inside the building was a milestone in the inquiry (extended audio file):

If you have any information about the fire you are asked to ring the police incident room on 631263 on the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.
