Police reassurance after fatal blaze

by isleofman.com 25th March 2009
Police are reassuring members of the public after four fires in Douglas within 16 hours of each other.

A man in his sixties died in a blaze in Demesne Road shortly after 4am on Sunday.

Three earlier fires in nearby streets are also under investigation and forensic examinations have taken place.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Willson says officers are keeping an open mind as to whether they're linked.

Police are thanking residents affected by police activity for their continued patience and have renewed their appeal for information.

They particularly want to hear from anyone who was in Bucks Road between 1.30 and 3pm on Saturday, March 21 or in the Peveril Street, Clarke Street or Demesne Road area, between midnight and 4am on Sunday.

They also want to trace whoever extinguished a fire in the area without reporting it to the police or fire brigade. The numbers to ring are the Incident Room 631263 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line - 0800 555 111.
