Chief praises courage of his crews

The Island’s chief fire officer is paying tribute to the bravery of the crews who tackled a blaze in Douglas at the weekend, in which a man died.

When firefighters arrived at the scene in Demesne Road in the early hours of Sunday morning, they had to rescue five people, as well as tackle the blaze.

They battled intense heat and flames as the fire threatened to collapse the building.
