Longer version of Mike Langdon interview

by isleofman.com 23rd March 2009
The fire in a flat in Douglas in which an elderly man died has taken a sinister turn.

At a news conference, chief constable Mike Langdon revealed it was one of four separate blazes in the area at the weekend, which together look highly suspicious.

More than 60 officers are involved in what's described as a 'murder style' investigation. All leave has been cancelled and a specialist team of forensic officers is being drafted to the Island, to help.

A man in his early 60s died in his flat in Demesne Road in the early hours of Sunday. A section of the street remains cordoned off and could remain closed for up to a week.

Mr Langdon told Marian Kenny more about the series of fires before the tragedy (extended audio file):

Police are urging anyone who thinks they may be able to help the investigation to contact the Incident Room on 631263.

They particularly want to speak to anybody who helped put out one of the fires, without reporting their involvement.
