Destroyed lighthouse should be replaced - MHKs

by isleofman.com 22nd March 2009
The three Rushen MHKs are calling for a new lighthouse to be built at the end of Port St Mary's Alfred Pier.

Phil Gawne, Quintin Gill and Juan Watterson want the Department of Transport to replace the structure which was washed away in severe gales in January.

The cost of building a new lighthouse is put at between ?75,000 and ?100,000.

But the MHKs say that would represent good value for money, and Port St Mary deserves better than the "functional light" currently being used which, they say, is out of keeping.
