Electronic tagging expected to increase

by isleofman.com 19th March 2009
Regulations approved by Tynwald will enable courts in the Isle of Man to sentence more offenders to electronic tagging.

The tag is a transmitter device which is fitted to an offender's ankle so the authorities can see whether an individual is where they are supposed to be at a particular time.

More people are now able to monitor tagging which means courts will be able to make greater use of the facility.

Police constables, specified members of the probation service and employees of the security firm G4S, which operates the tags, will be the first to know if a curfew has been breached.
