Industry spokesman welcomes 'The Wave'

by isleofman.com 19th March 2009
The chairman of a representative body within the Island's tourist industry says the news the Sefton Group is planning a major development on the Summerland site in Douglas is all positive.

Theo Fleurbaay, of the Manx Hospitality Partnership, is welcoming proposals for a ?30 million family leisure facility, which would include a multiplex cinema, bowling alley, bars and restaurants.

The facility would be called The Wave and Mr Fleurbaay says the project is long overdue.

He told Manx Radio:

"We all know that the site has been an eyesore for way too long.

"The fact there might now be a possibility of some facilities being built there which would boost Douglas as a tourist destination, and with that the Isle of Man as a tourist destination, I think is good.

"We've been lacking certain facilities for certain age groups here anyway, so if I read it correctly with regards to the plans that the Sefton Group has, I think it will add to the experience of any visitor to the Isle of Man."
