Attempt to overturn tip approval fails

It looks as if the plan for a new landfill site in the north of the Island will go ahead, after Tynwald today rejected Ayre MHK Eddie Teare's attempts to stop it happening.

Mr Teare had argued the proposal went back on promises made by government ministers and departmental members to the people of Bride, about there being no more tipping at the Point of Ayre.

The northern site has been put forward as an alternative to Archallagan plantation and has been approved by a planning inspector and the Council of Ministers.

Mr Teare acknowledges there needs to be a new landfill facility on the Island, but says this decision shows more rigorous planning procedure is needed:
