Minister vows to clear roads of parked motorhomes

by isleofman.com 18th March 2009
Transport Minister David Anderson says he is considering all options as he tries to rid the Island’s roads of parked motorhomes.

Yesterday in Tynwald, he faced questions from North Douglas MHK John Houghton about the DoT’s plans to stop the vehicles being parked illegally on roads overnight.

Mr Anderson says it’s a problem which is becoming more common as the camper vans grow in popularity and people struggle to find somewhere to leave them, but his department is looking at ways of tackling the issue.

He told Manx Radio:

"The police do get calls to deal with these vehicles that are not complying to the letter of the law.

"However, people have had difficulties in getting enforcement taken against them.

"There was a suggestion put forward that the parking control officers could extend their brief into this area as well.

"At the moment they work standard working hours [and] it would mean their hours would have to become a bit more flexible, but all options are going to be considered."
